  • Pictures of earth from space

    Many people who visit this site are searching for pictures of earth from space.

    Well, obviously there is no better source for that than NASA. Because this is so hugely popular, NASA has made a own site for that under the slightly cryptic name of : http://earth.jsc.nasa.gov/sseop/efs/

    Here you can find all sorts of images of our beautiful planet. And what is best, almost all material from NASA is public domain, that means you are allowed to use it for your own purposes as long as you state the source of the pictures.

    Another excellent NASA source for pictures of earth and pictures of space exploration in genereal is

    GRIN – GReat Images in Nasa

    There you will find such treasures as this one and a lot more:

      I love pictures of space from the hubble telescope but i recently saw a program on discovery channel about how they use photoshop to make the images so vibrant in colours because those that come in from the hubble are these wierd spectrums..etc

      Either way, they still make awsome wallpapers.

      Hi Chloe
      Yeah, you’re right in these days almost every photo that is released by a professional is photoshopped, astronomy is no exception.
      On the other hand, my infrared and UV perception is really poor and we definitly would miss something if the spectrum was not shifted, wouldn’t we ;-)

      @marie
      you’re right. i think it’s not that important. let there be photoshop ;-)
      in the end it’s more important to have a great picture – as long it doesn’t lack too much accuracy

      I’m optimistic that the projects like Herschel telescope will improve the modern understanding of celestial objects. Therefore we need to contribute to the science and let the revolution happen in our life time.
